last day of vbs...wahooo!

don't get me wrong, these last few days have been amazing, but holy smokes...sooooo tiring.

the weather so far has been great. perfectly comfortable. today it's raining and other than the fact that we may not be able to play outside with the kids, thus making our day move much slower, i don't mind it. africa is beautiful. it's much like what you would picture. although i am hit everytime i go out by the poverty and devistation around me, i sort of crave it. it's real and raw. the people are by far the most welcoming people on the planet.

the major excitement of the morning was the fact that i bought an avacado on the street last night. let me just tell you, this in no regular avacado...in the states, it would cost about $10-15 considering it's size, but i paid only 500 shillings (approx. 50 cents). every morning, the hostel feed us breakfast for free. we have toast, hard boiled eggs, crepes, and oranges. i couldn't wait to wake up this morning to some avacado toast! and let me tell you...it didn't disappoint. oh, the little things in life.

photos are coming soon. we've downloaded them, but i'm running out of time right now, so i'll get them up today or tomorrow.

I read your blog to Doug, and I'm pretty sure he was salivating just thinking about that GIANT avocado. I just paid $2 for a tiny one last night! I'm glad to hear (read?) things are going well there. The girls ask about you every day, and miss you a lot. They're looking forward to some pics...maybe even a quick email from their favorite Auntie...??? :) Delaney wants you to know we went to Silverwood, and had lots of fun. Hailey would like you to return in 2 days. :) She wanted to know if she was going to be 6 years old when you got back. I assured her she would still be 5,and you wouldn't be too much longer. Things are crazy here (as usual). Good news! The school is safe! I'm so relieved. Steinleys, on the other hand....
Anyway, That all seems so trivial compared to what you're experiencing. We're praying for you, and can't wait to hear what you're up to.
Love,
Cordelia Drexell Biddle (Sorry, I had to)

Dad says:: let your heart soak in everything around you. Be open to the Holy spirit to pray with great power for the children there. This experiance will help in times at home when you think things are tough---you can always remember your time there. Love you , Dad

cori and doug: that's awesome about the school! all the hard work paid off, sounds like. i'm not sure what the rules are on bringing product home, but i'm gonna try to find out and if i can, i'll bring back a huge avacado.

hailey- i wanted to tell you that they don't have any horses here in tanzania, but i'm going to look for a zebra to take a picture of for you when i go on a safari.

laney-hopefully i'll get to go to silverwood with you when i get back. i want to ride the rollercoaster with you, ok?

i hope you're both being good while i'm gone. : ) i love you!

mom-
cecilia wasn't there the first few days, so redempta sent her sister to go get her and they've come since then. she is very cute! she has these little tiny cornrows. she's pretty shy, but after a day or two, i got her to smile. i've taken quite a few pictures of her. when redempta showed her the pic of you guys and explained, she would hardly look at me, but when she tried to take it back to save for when she's older, she refused to give it up. all the kids crowded around and wanted to see. photos are a HUGE deal here. they never really get to see what they look like, and the kids just treasure them like crazy.

i ate an egg the first day, and it was alright, but not my favorite. it's been nice to go the the market and mix things up a bit. our major find last night was peanut butter and we found some twix and kit kats. pretty sure i'm gonna have to go back and stock up.

dad: thank you. i'm feeling a little discouraged about things right now, so that was encouraging.

abbie, this is a long lost friend, kathie murrell, writing. needless to say, roy and i are truly excited (dead word) about your trip. we are planning a trip next year, and i much apppreciated your comments concerning the emotional aspect of the trip. that, too, is a concern for me. our church has had connections and has been actively involved in Kenya for a numeral of years. looking forward to seeing pics and hearing more about the trip when you are in the great state of Idaho.
