disclaimer!

let me just say, i've been reading over my past posts, and holy crap...i should proof them before i publish them. it's so beyond my nature to post with spelling errors. i usually type as fast as i possibly can before i lose the connection and get it published. there...now you can forgive me and my obvious abuse of the english language.

so...we met the most amazing family tonight. i love them! shannon and carmen, our friends here from cali, are working with them on starting an orphanage out on the mountain....truly in the bush. it's about 4hrs. from moshi here. after talking to herbert, emily and sarah-their daughter-i'm so excited and dying to see it. they hope to bring the kids in within a month or so. i can't even tell you how completely comfortable i am with them after just meeting. they have such amazing hearts that are so apparently in line with what God wants to do. i'm almost positive that God brought them into my life as an encouragement and to open the door to get involved with them. when i come back africa, i'm nearly certain i will work with them.

tomorrow we have the nursery school and the hospital again. i'm already sort of dreading it, cause i know it will get to me. it's something i need to do though...and eventhough i know it's not right, i am fighting myself to not close off an make myself callous just to survive. my discomfort and pain is nothing compaired to what they are experiencing. please pray for strength.

we met up with mussa last night. he's a fun guy. he's 25, so right in our age group, and he's going to be taking us on safari next week. it'll be awesome.

we get to take pastor zachariah's car tomorrow. steve gets a driving lesson in the morning, and we're praying he doesn't kill us! ha! besides the fact that you are on the wrong side of the road and the car, it's a stick and you have to shift with your left hand. oh! and throw in the fact that the roads are absolutely insane and the drivers are 100 times crazier. should be an adventure to say the least!

OH, MY LITTLE AUBREY, GOD HAS SURE GIVEN YOU A SPECIAL HEART. I WANT TO CRY EACH TIME I READ YOUR POSTS. BUT I AM SO GLAD YOU WENT-THEY DESPERATELY NEED HELP. DAD TOLD ME YOU WOULD PROBABLY BE GOING BACK AGAIN ONCE YOU WENT. BUT THE MOTHER HEN THAT I AM WANTED YOU TO BE CLOSE TO HOME. I LEAVE IT IN GOD'S HAND AND TRUST HIS WILL . OUR PRAYERS ARE WITH YOU AND SURELY GOD'S HAND IS UPON YOU. THE SAFARI SOUNDS FUN- IT WILL BE NICE TO GET AWAY FROM THE HARSH LIVING CONDITIONS. ARE YOU EATING WELL AND GETTING ENOUGH REST?? A MOM QUESTION, SORRY. I LOVE YOU LOTS, LOOKING FORWARD TO HEARING FROM YOU AGAIN.

My goodness, I was beginning to think the water had damaged the "editing desk" in your brain! It's so unlike you! Just kidding. We're all enjoying reading your blog, and the girls were SO excited to hear you had written to them. Some of my friends are even reading your blog now. We're praying for you, and we're so proud of you for the work you're doing on behalf of all of us at home.

mom-
i am eating well. there is a "restaurant" at our hostel, but we've quickly gotten tired of rice, beef, chicken (as in half a chicken...still looks like it), banana stew (they use plantain bananas for that, so they aren't sweet. they just taste like potatoes)and greens (i feel like cori, cause i swallow those whole). we've been eating at deli chez a lot. it's a place in town that has really good indian food. we've also being going to the hot bread store. it's owned by an indian family. they have apples, which i was so excited to see. we've been getting bread, avacado and cheese and making sandwiches. we even found a place with peanut butter and jelly. the bread place has yogurt too that is actually safe to eat. bovine tb is big here and can be transmitted to humans, so we've stayed away from most dairy. i have had a bit of milk in my coffee, but it is served hot and i pray each time that i don't catch anything. i eat about half a giant avacado a day, which i absolutely love. lindsey found jalapeno pringles yesterday and i was so excited!

i'm sleeping enough, although the muslims wake me up at 4, 4:30 and 5 with their call to prayer. today was especially annoying. i'm pretty sure they were practicing the whole annoy God til you get an answer approach. it sounded horrible. most mornings it's a little eerie, but kind of cool. lindsey and steve laugh at me cause i can be dead asleep in less than 3 minutes. it's a gift.

cori-
yeah, that disclaimer was aimed mostly toward you and matt. ha! i assure you i've only been drinking bottled water. geez. nice, i've totally got a fan club. might i suggest you all write a short essay on why you think i'm so great, in which will aid me in nominating a president of said fan club??? just a thought. oh, so i forgot to tell you, but i thought you'd get a kick out of this. all the kids think my name is "happy". i finally gave up in trying to correct them and went with it. apparently, i AM "happy meals".

laney and hailey- the kids here don't get to have candy very often, so we brought some for them. guess what the word for candy is in swahili...pipi (pee pee)! ha!

(that's right...still corrupting them from miles away...it's my job)

Mambo Abbie! I have been away at camp all week. The first thing I did when I got internet access was get on here and catch up on all the adventures! Wow, it looks like you are having an amazing time. I remember the hospital being the most difficult for me as well. I don't really see how it couldn't. I also went into the children's and burn wards. Along with the psych ward (that one's a little creepy). The story you shared about the little one in the burn ward was heart wrenching. I can't even imagine.
You are making a difference though Abbie. I'm so proud of you. Even if you did nothing but love on and pray for the watoto and people there, your impact with them and in the heavenly realm is huge.
I'm glad you got to meet up with Mussa! YAY! And that he is the one taking you on the safari. You will enjoy that. Just remember to get up there as early as possible, seriously. B/c that's the time the sweet animals are out and you will be more likely to see some cool stuff.
Until next time...you guys are in my prayers!

Yeah, so I JUST found out you were doing a blog...THANKS A LOT JERK! (That was for old times sake...you know, along the lines of, "Matt's in CDA but let's NOT bring him to Thryve!") Well, I still love ya...kinda. :-) Me so funny. Love the blog. Tell Steve he could've saved himself some time by just telling me bout your blog! Sorry bout the whole phone ordeal...I blame the last team! Hmmm...who led that last trip anyway...I'm trying to remember...it's right on the tip of my tongue...it's like I've seen the person's name somewhere just recently... :-)

Anyway, sounds like the kids camp went well. Glad you guys are able to be part of all the various stuff they do. Hospital is intense for sure.

Driving lessons...YES! By the way, Zachariah's LandCruiser definitely does not have power steering...and ya gotta pump the brakes a few times for them to work...have fun! It's all good, it's actually a good vehicle...it's been all over Tanzania...literally...and is still tickin...any vehicle that can do that over there is a good one...takes licking...keeps on tickin! Speaking of vehicles, did Steve decide to try the dirtbike?

Greet everyone at the church for me. I miss them all for sure. Give Mama Raymie a hug for me...on second thought, don't worry bout it, she'll give YOU about a thousand hugs. Have you been to the church's internet cafe? How is it going? Has Peter or Bariki (both from Arusha) been around?

Mussa...tell him Oh Boy Oberto says Mambo! So is he going with you or just setting you up with people to go with? Are you taking Zachariah's car or a different one?

Have you met/hung out with Muhammad & Asma...and cute lil Ibrahim?! Pass on our love to them for sure.

PS - If some of the staff at the church come after Steve with machetes, that's cause I'm a few days late wiring money over (which includes the money they get supported/paid with)...I told them they could take out their frustration on Steve...that he was cool with it...so tell him to enjoy!

dave-
yeah, i wondered why steve was going to all the trouble to email and such, but oh well.

steve's lesson went well. i think he's got the hang of it now. we kind of threw him right into in, by packing it with 13 people and making him drive us to the hospital. lindsey video taped the whole experience.

we haven't tried out the dirt bike. i'm thinking we may wait til wes gets here on sunday and he can give lessons on that one. it's scary enough on these roads inclosed in a car, ya know?!

peter has been around. he's a great guy. he's been helping our zachariah here and there with driving and such cause he broke his hand the week before we got here. we haven't hooked up with mohammed yet, but mussa showed us where he lives. mussa is planning on going with us. we're gonna try and use zachariah's car, but we haven't pinned that down yet.
